Nothing makes teachers, parents, and students smile more, than when children latch on the love of reading. Reading is a crucial skill, and the staff members in our schools really care about ensuring all children become readers. Our teachers in the Escanaba Area Public Schools use a tool called "DIBELS" to take stock of how individual students are doing in the area of reading. Teachers work "one-on-one" with children to administer the assessment, and "progress monitor" students throughout the school year so that instruction can be individually targeted to address whatever the students need. Children also learn how much their teachers really care about them...to spend this critical amount of time to "do whatever it takes" to help them read. It has been an extremely successful program, and recently Escanaba's experiences were highlighted in the December DIBELS Newsletter.

Ronda and others have done excellent work that has paid dividends for the students in Escanaba.
